Brain cancer claims 1,600 lives in Australia each year. Our research brings hope and better outcomes.
We drive practice-changing trials and global collaborations to improve care and survival in neuro-oncology.
Our community of healthcare professionals, researchers and consumers unites to expand treatment options.
COGNO is a not-for-profit network of healthcare professionals, researchers and consumer representatives dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for people affected by brain and spinal tumours. We collaborate nationally and internationally to develop and support the conduct of clinical trials and research to identify the most effective treatments and achieve better health outcomes.
COGNO is 1 of 14 collaborative Cancer Clinical Trials Groups established by the Australian Government under the Support for Cancer Clinical Trials Program. We develop investigator-initiated clinical trial protocols for patients diagnosed with brain and spinal tumours across Australia and New Zealand. We also provide education and updates about relevant practice-changing brain tumour trials and trials research.
Around 2000 Australians develop brain cancer each year. While outcomes for other cancers have steadily improved over time, this has not been the case for brain cancer. The five-year survival rate for all types of primary brain cancer has remained low, at around 22%, over the past 30 years. The five-year survival rate for glioblastoma, the most common primary brain cancer in adults, remains poor at just 5%. More effort is required to discover new treatments and interventions for brain cancer. Clinical trials are vital for translating research into clinical practice to improve survival and quality of life.
Join a multidisciplinary network of healthcare professionals and researchers who are committed to improving the outcomes of people with brain cancers through clinical trials. You will have the opportunity to work with Australian leaders in brain cancer research and contribute to much needed cutting-edge clinical trials. COGNO is involved in Australian-led trials as well as with our international collaborators in Europe and North America.
We have ACNC and Deductible gift recipient (DGR) status and are licensed to fundraise across Australia. You can make a personal donation via the link below or consider holding an event in your area to support COGNO. Please contact info@cogno.org for further information.

The Australian Government provides base level funding to COGNO via the Support for Cancer Clinical Trials Program. We are mainly supported through the voluntary efforts of our member clinical investigators, researchers and consumer advocates. To achieve our objectives and improve our impact additional support is required.
Your donations will help fund new brain cancer trials and research, expand trial sites and improve equity of access for participants. Together, we can create long-term impact.
